Why Post Adoption Services Are Needed

Thousands of children are adopted each year in the United States and abroad. Some children have had life experiences that create adjustment reactions after the adoption is finalized. Early harmful experiences can pose difficulties at predictable stages in a child's development. Sometimes children who are adopted need special reassurance and support. Teens who are adopted can benefit from the support of other teens who have been adopted. Post Adoption Services help adoptive parents honor their child's past and respond to disruptive behaviors in a positive manner.

About Our Clinical Services

FamilyNet Post Adoption clinicians understand the clinical issues of adopted children. They have special expertise with children who have been involved with the child welfare system. They are sensitive to potential anniversary reactions, anxieties, and fears of children who may have been neglected or abused prior to adoption. They are knowledgeable about supports needed by families who have adopted. Post Adoption clinicians are familiar with problem behaviors exhibited by children who have been removed involuntarily from their birth parents. They recognize that traditional family therapy may increase problem behaviors in children and cause additional stress to adoptive families. Post Adoption clinicians are familiar with community resources specific to families who have adopted.

Post Adoption services are provided by Licensed Clinical Social Workers.
