About Family Builders: Our History, Our Mission
Established in 1995 by Catawba County Social Services and the Children's Home Society of North Carolina, Family Builders of Catawba Valley affirms the philosophy that every child has the right to a safe, loving and permanent home. Just as our name implies, we help build families by matching children who need a permanent, loving family with adults who want children to call their own. FBCV constantly searches for resource families for its waiting children. Resource families may choose to foster, adopt, provide respite care or become
a visiting resource for waiting children.
It is our mission to create, build, strengthen and sustain
families through foster and adoption services. In addition to what is generally associated with the name Family Builders—adoption and foster care—respite care and visiting resource providers play a vital role in fulfilling our mission.
Respite care families help care for children when foster parents need someone to tend to their foster child for a few hours or a few days. A visiting resource family offers a refreshing and inviting place for children who are in the custody of Social Services to visit on a regular basis such as one evening each week or scheduled weekend visits. These families can provide mentoring and friendship to children who need support and encouragement.
